Iran Embassy in London Criticizes UK Position on Strait of Hormuz Amid US Tensions

Iran: Iran's embassy in Britain has issued a pointed response to recent US threats over the Strait of Hormuz, using a prior statement by a British official to highlight warnings about disruptions to maritime navigation. In a message posted late Sunday on X, the embassy wrote, 'Very precise stance on this obvious threat to freedom of navigation, even anticipated it two days in advance.'

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the remark came as a sarcastic reference to earlier comments by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, who had blamed Iran for instability in the strategic waterway without mentioning the root causes, which are US and Israeli military actions in the region. In her previously published statement, Cooper said, 'In my Mansion House speech, I made clear: the Strait of Hormuz must be fully reopened, without restrictions or tolls. The blocking of this vital waterway is hitting trade around the world and prices here at home. Freedom of navigation means navigation must be free.'

Iran has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz since the early days of the US-Israeli war as part of its response to the aggression. The Islamic Republic has time and again said the strait, through which 20% of global oil and gas products pass, is only closed to the US and Israel and any country helping them in the aggression.

US President Donald Trump, however, has been threatening Iran over the strategic waterway, and has stepped up his rhetoric again after talks between Tehran and Washington, held in Pakistan over the weekend, failed to produce an agreement to permanently end the war and fully open the strait. The US and Israel launched their war of aggression on Iran on February 28.
