Tehran: The head coach of Iran's national football team expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support of the Iranian people and stated that his side were not lucky enough at the 2026 World Cup, despite showing good performances.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Amir Ghalenoei, speaking upon the team's return to the country, said: 'The national team achieved respectable results in the 2026 World Cup and could have advanced to the next round had they enjoyed a bit more luck.'

He also cited several challenges that hampered the team, including visa issuance problems for the delegation and the difficult travel conditions between Mexico and the United States, as serious obstacles during the tournament.

Ghalenoei sincerely praised the national team players, saying they gave their all to bring joy to the Iranian people.

Iran finished its campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with three draws and three points in its group, placing third and missing out on qualification for the knockout stage.
