London: The Iran Embassy in the UK has urged the British government to reconsider and reverse recent sanctions imposed on Iran, which it describes as based on baseless allegations and politically motivated actions. The Embassy's call comes in response to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's (FCDO) announcement on May 11, 2026, regarding sanctions against individuals and entities allegedly connected to Iran.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement categorically rejecting the UK's claims and allegations. The statement emphasizes that these accusations lack credible evidence and are politically driven, seemingly intended to escalate tensions and justify hostile policies against Iran.
The Embassy further criticizes the attempts by certain British officials to associate domestic incidents in the UK with Iran without providing any verifiable evidence through appropriate legal or diplomatic channels. Such allegations, the statement argues, risk undermining diplomatic norms and damaging bilateral relations between the two nations.
Highlighting Iran's own experiences as a victim of terrorism and unlawful coercive actions, the Embassy condemns the selective and politicized approaches to issues of terrorism and security, which it believes only reinforce double standards and contribute to global instability.
In its appeal, the Iranian diplomatic mission calls on the UK government to abandon unilateral coercive measures and avoid making further provocative statements against Iran. It also urges the British government to fulfill its obligations under international law and to engage in constructive dialogue.
