Islamabad: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, announced that no meeting is scheduled between the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and US representatives during their current visit to Pakistan. Baqaei clarified this as he and other Iranian officials arrived in Islamabad for discussions with Pakistani leaders.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei emphasized that the visit aims at engaging with Pakistani high-level officials as part of ongoing mediation efforts to end what Iran terms as an "American imposed war of aggression" and to restore peace in the region. He reiterated that no discussions are planned with US representatives during this visit. Baqaei also mentioned that Iran's observations would be communicated to Pakistan.
Upon their arrival, Foreign Minister Araghchi and his delegation were greeted by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Iran's Ambassador to Islamabad Reza Amiri Moghaddam. The Iranian delegation's itinerary includes subsequent trips to Oman and Russia to discuss regional developments amidst the ongoing US-Israeli conflict involving Iran, which began on February 28.
Araghchi highlighted via X, formerly known as Twitter, that the purpose of these visits is to coordinate closely with regional partners on bilateral issues and consult on regional developments, underscoring that Iran's neighboring countries remain a priority for its foreign policy.
