Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has declared that Iran is committed to ensuring the future of the Persian Gulf is devoid of American presence and interference. He emphasized this in a message celebrating National Persian Gulf Day, highlighting a historical victory over European colonizers in 1622 AD.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf stated, "In the year 1622 AD, after 115 years of occupation, we drove the European colonizers out of the Persian Gulf, and we celebrate National Persian Gulf Day in honor of this victory." He further asserted that Iran, by maintaining control over the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, will secure a future for itself and its neighbors free from US influence.
Iran has reportedly closed the Strait of Hormuz to shipping connected with the US, Israeli regime, and their collaborators since the onset of military aggression on February 28. Iranian authorities have stipulated that transit through this vital corridor for global oil and gas supplies will require Iran's authorization for the duration of the conflict.
