Iranian Aggression and Houthi Threats Demand Global Action

New york: The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, has called for a decisive international response to Iranian attacks on GCC countries and the Houthi militia's threat to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He emphasized that these actions require immediate accountability and a firm global stance to uphold international law and ensure the security of navigation and vital infrastructure, particularly concerning energy and natural resources. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Al-Budaiwi made these remarks during a high-level open debate at the United Nations Security Council in New York, focused on Natural Resource Governance: A Pillar for Peace, Security and Prosperity. He stressed the increasing importance of this topic, highlighting that the GCC nations prioritize good governance of natural resources, given their significant oil and natural gas reserves. This posture has established them as reliable partners in maintaining stability in global energy markets, e ven amid crises and geopolitical fluctuations. Al-Budaiwi condemned the hostile statements and false claims by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, along with their threats to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He described these threats as a dangerous escalation that violates international law, endangers international navigation, and compromises a crucial maritime passage's safety. Such actions, he warned, jeopardize regional security and stability, undermining international efforts to protect global supply chains and ensure the continuity of international trade and energy flows. He further criticized Iran's actions in the Strait of Hormuz, citing incidents targeting commercial vessels, planting sea mines, and attempts to enforce passage within Iranian waters. These practices, he argued, violate international law and erode trust in one of the world's key maritime routes.
