Iranian and French Foreign Ministers Discuss Stalled Iran-US Negotiations

Islamabad: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot engaged in a phone conversation on Sunday night to deliberate on the recent developments concerning the stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the discussions came in the wake of a fresh round of talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, which were mediated by Pakistan. These talks concluded late Sunday after approximately 21 hours of intensive dialogue, yet they ended without reaching a conclusive agreement.

Senior delegations from Iran and the United States were actively involved in the discussions. Pakistan played a crucial role in mediating the dialogue, with Islamabad proposing an extension of the talks as part of its efforts to maintain the negotiation process.

A source close to the Iranian negotiating team revealed to IRNA that the United States made specific demands, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the handover of enriched materials. The source emphasized that these demands, which were not achieved militarily and resulted in the Tabas-2 fiasco for the United States, cannot be imposed at the negotiating table. The Iranian delegation remains steadfast in preserving its achievements on the ground.
