Tehran: Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs, met with Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, the Secretary-General of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), to discuss enhancing cooperation between Iran and AALCO.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi emphasized the importance of AALCO in amplifying the legal perspectives of Asian and African nations amidst global challenges. He highlighted issues such as the use of force, unilateral coercive measures, double standards, and the weakening of multilateralism as significant concerns facing international law. He stressed that institutions like AALCO play a crucial role in defending the sovereign equality of states, the right to development, promoting peaceful dispute resolution, and ensuring fair participation of all countries.
Gharibabadi expressed Iran's readiness to engage more actively with AALCO, focusing on the development and codification of international law, combating unilateral coercive measures, supporting multilateralism, and strengthening the legal capacity of member states. He noted that AALCO could serve as a vital platform for advocating an independent, balanced, and just approach in international law.
Pinitpuvadol, in response, conveyed appreciation for Iran's support of AALCO's initiatives. He detailed AALCO's various programs for the year, marking the organization's 70th anniversary, and announced AALCO's readiness to collaborate on joint legal initiatives and events with Iran.
