Rosatom, the Russian company, under the guidance of its General Director Alexey Likhachev, is targeting a 30 percent implementation rate for the Dabaa nuclear facility in Egypt. This ambitious goal was highlighted during a meeting with Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Emphasizing the significance of the Dabaa nuclear power plant project, Madbouly reiterated its importance in Egypt's energy diversification strategy, with a focus on expanding the utilization of new and renewable energy sources by 2030. Further discussions were held between Rosatom and Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, exploring opportunities to localize peaceful nuclear energy technology. Likhachev noted that this collaboration would greatly assist Egypt in achieving its objectives in the realm of new and renewable energy sources. Situated in the Matrouh governorate in northwestern Egypt, the Dabaa plant marks the country's inaugural venture into nuclear power. This 4.8 GW facility, a joint effort between Rosatom and Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), is projected to be fully operational by 2030. Rosatom, entrusted with the construction and fuel supply since 2015, aims to provide around 10 percent of Egypt's energy needs, generating up to 37 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
