Commonalities to Help Boost Iran-Indonesia Public Diplomacy: Official

Isfahan: The governor of Isfahan Province says Iran and Indonesia possess many common points and potential to strengthen people-to-people diplomacy by developing tourism. Mehdi Jamalinejad made the remarks in a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador Rolliansyah Soemirat, at the iconic Ashraf Hall of the Isfahan Governorate on Monday evening.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Jamalinejad echoed the envoy’s call for developing public diplomacy and described both Iranians and Indonesians as hardworking people, who have many common and complementary points for establishing relations. He highlighted that Isfahan, as one of the most important urban centers on the Iranian Plateau, with many historical roots and a cradle of civilization, can play an important role in interactions with Indonesia.

Referring to the unique features of the province, Jamalinejad cited thousands of attractions, including the intangible heritage of medieval empires such as the Buyids, Seljuks, and Safavids. He emphasized that Isfahan, located on the Silk Road, was not only a trade hub but also a center for cultural exchanges and tourism, manifesting peaceful coexistence of religions and ethnic groups.

The governor further noted that Isfahan, known as ‘the City of Knowledge’ in the past, remains one of the most advanced cities in terms of hi-tech industries and know-how. This is evidenced by the presence of more than 800 active knowledge-based complexes, 300 types of handicrafts, and excellent architectural innovation.
