Iran Customs Chief Highlights Favorable Border Cooperation with Azerbaijan

Bileh-savar: The head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) says border cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan remains at a favorable level, announcing that Bileh-Savar customs office in northern Ardabil Province has been granted authorization to clear imported vehicles.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Foroud Asgari announced that the Bileh Savar Moghan customs office has been officially authorized to clear imported vehicles, emphasizing that cross-border cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan remains at a favorable level. During a Sunday visit to the place, Asgari highlighted the strategic importance of this border crossing, noting that the area's recent expansion and the establishment of the Ardabil Free Trade Zone have created strong potential for economic growth. He said the new authorization will allow the customs office to collect duties and contribute more directly to regional development.

Asgari stated that the trip focused on reinforcing the significance of the Bileh-Savar border, which plays a key role in supplying essential goods to the country. He added that export, import, and transit traffic through the border is expected to increase. To support this, the customs office will be upgraded to a general directorate, with additional staffing and budget allocated accordingly, he said.

The official emphasized that the Bileh-Savar customs office has been granted broader powers to streamline cargo clearance and better serve traders across Ardabil Province. The goal, he said, is to help transform the Ardabil-Bileh Savar Free Trade Zone into an active and prosperous economic hub capable of meeting a substantial share of the nation's demand for consumer goods, raw materials, and industrial supplies.

Asgari also praised Azerbaijan's cooperation during recent regional tensions, noting that not only did cross-border traffic remain uninterrupted, but Azerbaijan even increased its processing capacity during the early days of the conflict.
