Exclusive | Scottish Analyst Terms Snapback Mechanism as Price of Iran’s Resistance Against US Colonialism

Tehran: A Scottish thinker and political activist has described the decision by the E3 (Germany, Britain, and France) to trigger the snapback mechanism and reinstate UN Security Council sanctions against Iran as a clear sign of Europe’s complete obedience to Washington and a punishment for Iran for its resistance against American colonialism.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mick Napier highlighted that the recent UNSC vote on the sanctions regime against Iran reveals the continued and deepening subservience of Europe to the United States under the Trump administration compared to previous US governments. Napier emphasized the US’s consistent policy since 1979 to ensure a compliant regime in Tehran or to punish and weaken Iran or any state challenging Western domination.

He noted that this policy is evident in the recent UNSC votes, which will intensify sanctions on the Iranian government and its people. Napier also pointed out that the snapback mechanism and the use of the UN Security Council to intensify sanctions against Iran demonstrate the West’s approach to UN diplomacy, equating it to politics as a continuation of war by other means.

Napier asserted that Washington, London, Paris, and Berlin view the situation as a necessity for Iran and other countries to abandon any illusions of equality and submit to Western dominance, or face continued punishment. He further argued that the UN system, structured post-1945, was designed to ensure the dominance of the US and its allies, serving their interests at the expense of the global majority.

Even when the US’s attempts at persuasion fail, as in the case of Israel, Napier noted that the US veto prevents the United Nations from taking practical steps against the regime. He concluded by stating that the system, rigged in favor of the US and its allies in 1945, remains so despite numerous challenges.
