Families of Iranian Terrorism Victims Call for End to Europe’s Support for Terrorist Groups

Geneva: A group of Iranian families of terrorism victims have presented their cases at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and called for the support of the European states to the terrorist groups to end. The families of the Iranian victims of terrorism strongly opposed the support of the European states for the terrorist groups.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the representative of the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, in his statement at the meeting of the UN Special Rapporteur, objected to the support of terrorist groups by the Western states and demanded a report from Mr. Ben Saul, the terrorism Special Rapporteur, about the harms of terrorism to the people of Iran.

The statement from the association outlined several recommendations for the international community and the mandate holder. These include the necessity for the United Nations to identify and prevent activities of front organizations affiliated with terrorist groups that operate under the guise of NGOs. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of obliging states that support and host terrorists to adhere to human rights frameworks and enhance international cooperation in countering terrorism.

The association also stressed the need to create opportunities and conditions for victims of terrorism to contribute to the UN’s decision-making and actions against terrorism. It called for the appointment of a Special Rapporteur on the human rights of victims of terrorism or for the inclusion of this issue in the mandate of the Rapporteur on Terrorism. Furthermore, the Special Rapporteur is requested to visit Iran and independently submit a comprehensive report on the impact of terrorism on human rights in the country, providing accurate statistics, credible documentation, and practical recommendations for supporting victims and survivors.

The 58th regular session of the Human Rights Council is taking place in Geneva from February 24 to April 4, 2025.
