Foreign Ministers of Iran and Oman Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Issues

New york: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi have held talks in New York, the United States, discussing a host of issues from Iran’s nuclear program to Gaza. Araghchi and Al Busaidi met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) late Monday Tehran time.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the discussions between the two officials covered Iran-Oman relations, as well as regional and international developments. A significant focus was on the Gaza war, with both ministers stressing the need to end the ongoing Israeli actions there and to bring the regime’s officials to justice.

The discussions also covered Iran’s nuclear issue, where Araghchi reiterated the importance of European parties acting responsibly. He highlighted Iran’s responsible approach and emphasized the necessity for the West’s commitment to lifting existing sanctions against Iran. Araghchi cautioned against any miscalculation regarding the nuclear issue.

The meeting took place four days after the UN Security Council failed to pass a resolution aimed at preventing the reimposition of the Council’s sanctions on Iran. This situation followed a month after the E3 countries-Britain, France, and Germany-triggered the ‘snapback mechanism,’ which would reinstate the sanctions lifted under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
