Tehran: The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited residential and civilian districts in Tehran on Wednesday that were targeted during recent attacks by the United States and Israel. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, who has travelled to Iran for the visit, toured affected areas alongside the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society to assess damage caused by the US-Israeli-imposed war against Iran.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Spoljaric Egger's itinerary included a visit to the Gandhi Street neighborhood, where she observed the damage inflicted on Gandhi Hospital as a result of the strikes. The hospital sustained serious damage in the enemy strikes, emphasizing the impact on civilian infrastructure. During her visit, the ICRC president emphasized the importance of meetings with Red Crescent officials and Iranian government authorities, as part of her planned humanitarian engagements.
Spoljaric Egger highlighted the need to reduce tensions, protect civilians, and create space for supporting children, stressing the necessity of continued humanitarian dialogue and cooperation. She also pointed out that reaching a political solution to the current situation was crucial, and assured that ICRC cooperation with the Iranian Red Crescent Society to deliver emergency aid would continue uninterrupted.
