Tehran: Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, met with Turkmenistan’s Special Representative for Caspian Sea Affairs, Murad Atajanov, to discuss recent developments concerning the Caspian Sea. This meeting comes in anticipation of the 7th Summit of Caspian littoral states, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran in the summer of 2026.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi announced the meeting on his X account, highlighting that the discussions were aimed at strengthening bilateral interactions and enhancing regional cooperation among the Caspian littoral countries. Both parties examined key issues related to the region, including preparations for the upcoming summit and collaborative initiatives among littoral states.
The meeting also addressed environmental concerns, with a particular focus on the potential relocation of the Tehran Convention Secretariat to somewhere in the region. Practical measures to address the declining water levels in the Caspian Sea were also discussed. Gharibabadi emphasized the importance of ongoing consultations and reinforced bilateral and regional cooperation to advance the shared interests of all Caspian littoral nations.
