Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry has officially rejected recent reports suggesting the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, labeling such claims as 'baseless.' In a statement issued today, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei addressed the rumors circulating by some media outlets, clarifying that maritime traffic remains uninterrupted.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei emphasized that the Iranian Armed Forces have implemented all necessary measures to guarantee the safe passage of commercial vessels through this critical waterway. He confirmed that commercial ships are currently passing through the strait as normal.
This clarification follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on June 18, 2026, aimed at ending the hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States-Israeli coalition. The agreement, which was formally inked by the presidents of Iran and the United States, includes specific provisions to secure regional transit routes and stabilize the area.
