Iran Determined to Implement Strategic Partnership Treaty with Russia: President Pezeshkian

Tehran: President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized his administration's serious determination to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty signed between Iran and Russia.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov and his accompanying delegation in Tehran, Pezeshkian expressed satisfaction with the accelerated bilateral interactions between Iran and Russia. He described their cooperation as expanding. The president also referred to his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that these meetings resulted in important and strategic decisions ensuring not only the common interests of both countries but also opening new horizons for Tehran-Moscow relations.

On the strategic partnership treaty, which he signed with Putin in Moscow in January last year, Pezeshkian highlighted Iran's determination to implement the document with strength, speed, and precision. He added that the implementation process is being pursued in all agreed areas, including transportation, energy, oil and gas, agriculture and food products, defense, and security cooperation. The president clarified that he is personally following the progress of the agreement on a weekly basis and has tasked different ministers with accelerating the implementation of joint commitments.

Elsewhere during the meeting, Pezeshkian addressed the unilateral approaches of some powers, urging regional countries to expand their relations without any intervention from extra-regional actors in their internal affairs. For his part, the Russian energy minister, while conveying the warm greetings of Putin to Pezeshkian, presented a report on the 19th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission meeting that concluded in Tehran earlier in the day.

Calling 2025 a fruitful year in Tehran-Moscow relations regarding the development of joint cooperation, Tsivilyov stated that President Putin considers relations with Iran to be very important for Russia. He also expressed the deep sympathy of the Russian government and people with the government and people of Iran following the January foreign-backed riots that resulted in more than 3,000 deaths.
