Tehran: Iran’s Judiciary has announced the execution of Aghil Keshavarz, an Iranian national convicted of espionage for the Israeli regime and cooperation with its army and intelligence agency, Mossad. The execution was carried out on Saturday after Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the initial verdict, according to the Judiciary’s announcement.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Keshavarz was arrested earlier this year in the city of Urmia, the capital of West Azerbaijan Province in northwest Iran, while filming the building of the Urmia Infantry Division. Forces from the Iranian Army’s Intelligence Unit, conducting a routine patrol, became suspicious of him and arrested him.
At the time of his arrest, Keshavarz claimed that he had traveled to the city to attend a scientific seminar at Urmia University. However, an inspection of his mobile phone revealed a message from a number linked to Israel and from a person using the username ‘Usher.’ Further evidence of his links to the Israeli regime was discovered during an inspection of the hotel where he was staying. Documents found included a notebook listing several security institutions along with their addresses.
An investigation into Keshavarz’s family background revealed that his family members supported the toppled Shah regime, and that his uncle had been a member of the anti-Iran terrorist group Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO). Keshavarz himself had also participated in MKO operations in the past.
According to the Judiciary, Keshavarz was in contact with both the Israeli army and Mossad through social media. He initiated contact by sending messages hostile to the Islamic Republic of Iran. In an effort to gain their trust, he sent the Israeli army information about a warehouse allegedly used for missile production. This message prompted a request for further details, eventually leading to his cooperation with the Israeli army and later Mossad.
Keshavarz confessed to carrying out more than 200 missions for the Israeli regime in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Urmia, and Shahroud. He was paid for these missions through a digital wallet. Photographing target locations, planting tracking devices, conducting opinion surveys, and monitoring traffic on specific routes were among the missions he carried out on the orders of Mossad officers.
Keshavarz also confessed that he knowingly cooperated with the Israeli army and intelligence agencies with the intention of harming the Islamic Republic. He was sentenced to death following several court sessions attended by his lawyer, based on his confessions and evidence proving his cooperation with the Israeli regime.
