The hague: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in the Netherlands to attend the annual meeting of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague. Araghchi is set to deliver a speech at the 30th Session of the Conference of the States Parties, where he will outline Iran’s positions and views on the agenda of the event.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi will also engage in discussions on bilateral and international issues with his Dutch counterpart, David van Weel. The annual OPCW meeting, held in The Hague, focuses on overseeing the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, reviewing compliance with the treaty, and promoting the Convention’s objectives.
Iran, a member of the OPCW, was a victim of chemical weapons during the 1980s conflict imposed by former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein. Tens of thousands of Iranians were exposed to these weapons, resulting in long-term respiratory, ocular, and skin damage.
