Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that Iran remains open to negotiations, provided they are grounded in respect for the country’s legal rights and the legitimate interests of its people. Araghchi emphasized this stance during a recent phone conversation with Yvette Cooper, Britain’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during their discussion, Araghchi and Cooper exchanged views on various bilateral issues, with an emphasis on consular matters. They highlighted the importance of ongoing consultations at different levels to bolster mutual understanding and address issues of shared interest.
Araghchi took the opportunity to criticize the stance of three European countries-Britain, France, and Germany-regarding Iran’s nuclear issue. He reiterated Tehran’s position that it has never dismissed negotiations that respect Iran’s lawful rights and national interests. However, he stressed that Iran is opposed to any talks perceived as a one-sided imposition concerning its nuclear rights.
In response, Cooper reaffirmed Britain’s belief in the necessity of diplomacy when addressing Iran’s nuclear dossier.
