Chalous: Iranian authorities announced that firefighters have successfully contained approximately 90% of a forest fire in the Elit area of Chalous, located in the northern Mazandaran province. Officials anticipate that most of the remaining hotspots will be extinguished later today.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gholamali Fakhari, the head of the Mazandaran Red Crescent Society, shared updates with reporters during a provincial crisis-management meeting in Chalous. Fakhari noted that both ground teams and aerial units are continuing their operations to combat the blaze.
Fakhari stated, “Based on today’s field reports, about 90% of the fire has been brought under control and only a limited section remains.” He further explained that improved weather conditions have enhanced visibility, allowing helicopters to operate more effectively in the area.
The forested regions surrounding Elit village in Marzanabad have faced two separate fires this month. The initial fire erupted on November 1 and was contained after several days of intense firefighting.
The second fire, which started last Saturday, has persisted for eight days. Despite the extensive efforts of emergency responders, local volunteers, and the deployment of three helicopters, some fire pockets continue to burn, according to officials.
