Tehran: Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has condemned the military actions taken by the United States and Israel against Iran, highlighting the perceived politicization and selective application of the UN Security Council's rules and procedures.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Darzi emphasized Iran's commitment to enhancing the transparency, inclusivity, efficiency, and accountability of the Security Council in alignment with the UN Charter and international law. In a statement before the Security Council, Darzi underscored the impact of the Council's working methods on its credibility and effectiveness in maintaining global peace and security.
Darzi called for adherence to the UN Charter and international law, stressing that the Security Council's authority must be exercised impartially and in the collective interest of international peace and security. He urged that the Council's meetings and procedures should not be exploited to further politically motivated or unsubstantiated allegations against member states.
Highlighting the military aggression by the United States and Israel, Darzi pointed to the violations of the UN Charter and international law, which he argued have had serious consequences for regional and international peace and security. He criticized the Security Council's failure to address these aggressions due to the obstruction by a permanent member involved in the aggression.
Darzi also expressed concern over the actions of France, the United Kingdom, and the United States in using the Council's mechanisms to advance narratives against Iran's nuclear program. He reiterated Iran's position that resolution 2231 (2015) has expired, and any attempts to invoke measures under it are viewed as abuses of the Security Council's authority.
Concluding his speech, Darzi called for a consistent, impartial, and good-faith application of the Council's rules and practices, beyond the adoption of procedural language, to genuinely improve its working methods.
