Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has reported that two vessels encountered accidents after attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz using an unauthorized route, ignoring the warnings issued by Iranian authorities.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC Navy released a statement on Sunday indicating that four vessels, allegedly supported by "American terrorists," had turned off their navigation systems and attempted to disrupt the flow of traffic by taking an unsafe exit from the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC Navy stated that two of these ships experienced accidents and halted, while the remaining two vessels altered their course after receiving warnings from the Hormuz Strait control base.
The statement emphasized the IRGC Navy's comprehensive oversight of the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that the only secure passage is the officially designated route communicated by the force. It further asserted that no oil, gas, or fertilizer would transit the Strait without proper coordination and authorization, echoing previous IRGC warnings.
The IRGC issued a strong caution, stating that vessels influenced by "the American enemy" that choose unsafe routes are at risk of encountering accidents. These developments occur amidst rising tensions following multiple alleged US breaches of the Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington, signed on June 17. Iran has been actively preventing unauthorized vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz that contravene this agreement.
