Moscow: In a message to the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has stressed that cooperation between Iran and the member states of this union is a long-term strategy for creating a powerful region by strengthening national sovereignty.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Pezeshkian’s message was read by Kazem Jalali, Iranian ambassador to Russia, at the Eurasian Union Summit, which opened on Sunday evening in St. Petersburg, with the participation of the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, as the five member countries of the union.
In this message, President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for the Russian government and people hosting this summit and wished the leaders of the countries present at the summit a Happy New Year in advance. He emphasized that cooperation between Iran and the Eurasian Union member states is a long-term strategy to create a strong region by stre
ngthening national sovereignty, facilitating transportation and trade, enhancing energy security, developing technology, creating joint financial and banking infrastructure, and increasing people-to-people contacts.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of relying on cultural and historical commonalities and the advantage of geographical proximity to portray a successful model of regional integration. He called for great effort and firm determination to turn this historic opportunity into a turning point for shared growth, emphasizing that the future belongs to nations that pave the way for progress through cooperation and mutual trust.
Pezeshkian reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran places increasing importance on regional and multilateral mechanisms, aiming to be an effective and reliable member and partner in regional arrangements and blocs. He mentioned Iran’s active presence in organizations such as the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), BRICS, the Economic Cooperation Organizat
ion of the Eight Developing Countries (D8), the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Forum (ACD), the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as evidence of this commitment.
He asserted that the Eurasian Economic Union holds a special place in Iran’s foreign policy and economic diplomacy, with the implementation of the free trade agreement and obtaining observer status in the union marking an effective and productive presence in the activities of this important economic entity in the region.
President Pezeshkian emphasized that this meeting demonstrates the shared determination of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Iran to expand strategic cooperation in important areas such as trade, energy, transportation, and new technologies.
