Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has emphasized the United States' responsibility in the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran and called for a complete halt to the Israeli regime's attacks against Lebanon. Araghchi conveyed these points during separate phone calls with his counterparts from Turkey, Iraq, and Egypt, namely Hakan Fidan, Fuad Hussein, and Badr Abdelatty.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi discussed the process and provisions of the Islamabad understanding and praised the roles of Turkey, Iraq, and Egypt in supporting the ceasefire, reducing regional tensions, and promoting diplomatic efforts for regional stability and security. All parties involved underlined the importance of continuing close consultations on regional developments and bolstering diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability.
The release of tensions began when Iran and the United States announced a ceasefire on April 8, 2026, subsequently engaging in negotiations mediated by Pakistan to end the conflict definitively. The MoU, which builds on Iran's 14-point proposal introduced at the start of the ceasefire, has been reviewed extensively over 60 days in the capitals of both nations. Despite facing pressures and ceasefire violations, as well as shifts in the US's position, Iran has maintained its stance.
Following the signing of the MoU, both countries are set to embark on a series of intensive negotiations over the next 60 days, aiming to reach a comprehensive agreement on the disputed issues.
