Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf has praised Iran's historic resilience against aggressors, declaring that the nation has taken a 'great step towards final victory' through a recent agreement with the United States.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf shared these remarks in a post on his account on Monday. This announcement comes amid reports suggesting that Iranian and American delegations are likely to meet in Switzerland on Friday to sign a memorandum of understanding. This memorandum aims to bring a permanent end to what has been described as the illegal US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.
Ghalibaf addressed the Iranian nation, applauding their historic resistance and the valor demonstrated by the armed forces. He emphasized that despite efforts to destroy and subdue the nation, Iran has taken significant strides toward victory. "We are standing firm and in the end our Iran will win by the grace of God," he asserted.
In his post, Ghalibaf included an image of the 4,500-year-old Abarkuh cypress tree, symbolizing Iran's enduring resistance. This tree, located in central Iran, is recognized as Asia's oldest living organism.
The conflict began on February 28 with the illegal US-Israeli aggression on Iran. In retaliation, Iran's armed forces targeted key American and Israeli sites and restricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire brokered by Islamabad took effect on April 8, forty days into the conflict. However, initial negotiations between Tehran and Washington did not result in an agreement, leading to a naval blockade imposed on Iran by the United States.
Despite the temporary truce, violations by both the United States and Israel led Iran to launch retaliatory strikes and enforce the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels.
