TEHRAN: Iran and Qatar have urged for concerted efforts to halt what they describe as Israeli aggression against Syrian infrastructure and territorial encroachments. In a phone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Qatari Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed regional developments, with a focus on Syria.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the two foreign ministers emphasized the importance of stopping Israeli attacks on Syria, which they argue have exacerbated the crisis in the region. They called for ongoing bilateral and multilateral consultations to promote stability and support the establishment of a political system in Syria that reflects the will of its people.
The conversation between Araghchi and Al Thani comes amid increased Israeli military actions in Syria. Since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government and the subsequent rise of opposition groups, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria, allegedly ta
rgeting military facilities. A UK-based monitoring group has reported over 310 Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, with strikes hitting cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, and Hama, and impacting military installations like weapons depots and research centers.
The foreign ministers underscored the necessity of international efforts to address these ongoing hostilities and prevent further deterioration of the situation in Syria.
