Iran and Uzbekistan Commit to Boost Agricultural Cooperation.


Tehran: Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, has underscored the Islamic Republic’s potential to provide Uzbekistan with advanced engineering services, training, and research in various agricultural sectors, including livestock breeding and drip irrigation. This announcement came during a meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Nasriev Fariddin Badriddinovich, in Tehran on Thursday, where both parties expressed a mutual interest in enhancing bilateral agricultural cooperation.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Minister Nouri Ghezeljeh commended the initiatives taken by the presidents of Iran and Uzbekistan to foster joint cooperation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening economic relations and increasing trade exchanges, citing the shared cultural, religious, and historical ties between the two nations. The minister highlighted Iran’s strengths in technology development and research in agriculture, specifically mentioning services such as building cost-effective gr
eenhouses, establishing storage facilities for agricultural goods, and offering technology for disinfecting agricultural products.

Nouri Ghezeljeh noted that the current level of economic exchanges does not fully reflect the capacities and shared interests of both countries. He mentioned a target figure of $2 billion, discussed during a meeting between the presidents of Iran and Uzbekistan, as a benchmark for enhancing economic relations between Tehran and Tashkent. Additionally, he pointed out the development of air and railway routes as key priorities for their cooperation.

The Uzbek ambassador expressed gratitude for Iran’s hospitality and indicated that Uzbekistan’s minister of agriculture is prepared to engage in close collaboration with Iran across seven agricultural domains. He outlined plans for cooperation that include modern irrigation techniques, cultivation of drought-resistant crops like pistachios, development of modern greenhouses, production of agricultural machinery, and joint initiatives i
n poultry and turkey meat production. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of conducting scientific research and sharing expertise in livestock and aquaculture between the two countries.
