Oran: The Iranian men’s sabre team has clinched the runner-up position at the Fencing World Cup held in Algeria. The team achieved notable victories against strong competitors from Ukraine, Hungary, and the United States, propelling them into the final match of the tournament.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in the final, the Iranian team faced South Korea and was defeated with a score of 35-45, securing second place. The team consisted of sabre fencers Ali Pakdaman, Mohammad Fotouhi, Farzad Baher Arasbaran, and Nima Zahedi, who were coached by Mohammad Rahbari.
Nearly 300 fencers from 37 countries participated in the first stage of the 2024-2025 season of the Fencing World Cup (sabre), which took place in Oran, Algeria, from November 7-10. The World Fencing Federation has updated its rankings following the event. Iran’s sabre fencing team has risen two positions, now ranking fourth in the world, a testament to their strong performance at the tournament.

s also improved his standing, moving up two spots to 9th place. Meanwhile, Mohammad Fotouhi’s ranking remains unchanged at 41st place. Farzad Baher climbed one spot to reach 52nd place. Additionally, Nima Zahedi and Ahmadreza Shahmiri advanced six and three places, respectively, now positioned at 180th and 247th places.
