Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the United States acts of aggression against the Islamic Republic, describing the renewed attacks as brutal and a gross violation of international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a statement on Monday, the ministry said the US regime has committed the most heinous war crimes by attacking Iran's transportation infrastructure, fishing boats and cargo dhows, as well as meteorological facilities and buildings over the past 24 hours, openly violating almost all parts of a memorandum of understanding only 25 days after it was signed to end the war.
Stating that the American brutalities not only violate the UN Charter, especially the content stipulated in Article 2, it warned that the American actions represent a serious threat to international peace and security.
The ministry once again accused the US of causing insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disrupting international commercial shipping by openly and continuously interfering in Iran's efforts to implement necessary arrangements in the strategic waterway to ensure the safe transit of ships.
The statement warned neighboring countries on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf over allowing their territories and facilities to be used by the enemy to launch attacks on Iran, saying the US military has effectively turned these countries into an arena for its illegal and criminal war against the Iranian nation.
It further warned that any participation and cooperation with the aggressors would carry consequences, as the brave Iranian Armed Forces would consider the source and origin of attacks against the Islamic Republic a legitimate target for defensive and retaliatory strikes.
The ministry also dismissed it as a campaign of disinformation and fake news aimed at distorting facts and justifying the US administration's lawbreaking, saying President Donald Trump's claim about the outcome of Saturday's Muscat talks was 'a pure lie and born out of desperation.'
Negotiations between Iranian and Omani officials were essentially focused on the management of the Strait of Hormuz and transit routes, and unfortunately, the US prevented the outcome by applying overt and covert pressure on Oman, it explained.
The statement also expressed regret over the 'unconstructive approach of the UN Secretariat' toward clear law-breaking and bullying by the US, calling on the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to hold the aggressors accountable as well as prosecute and punish the commanders and perpetrators of the crimes committed against the Iranian nation.
