Iran Summons Omani Diplomat Over Water-Related Rumors

Tehran: The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the charge d’affaires of the Omani Embassy in Tehran over rumors circulating about the deaths of two individuals in Oman allegedly linked to the consumption of mineral water imported from Iran.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the invitation to the Omani diplomat was extended by Abdul Rasoul Shabibi, head of the Second Persian Gulf Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to unfounded claims propagated by some Omani media outlets. These claims suggested that the deaths were caused by Iranian-imported mineral water.

Shabibi formally protested the negative media environment surrounding Iranian mineral water exports and urged for a swift resolution to clarify the situation. He asserted that the incident had no connection to the drinking water and was, in fact, a family-related criminal matter driven by revenge, not linked to the Iranian product.

The Omani charge d’affaires recognized the importance of maintaining the positive, long-standing relations between Oman and Iran. He assured that he would communicate the issue to the relevant Omani authorities promptly.

It is noted that credible information indicates the deaths of an Omani citizen and a foreign family servant were due to a criminal act, not related to the consumption of Iranian mineral water.
