Tehran: The head of Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has issued a stern warning to those orchestrating pressure campaigns against Iran, cautioning them to brace for a ‘heavier price’ in response to their actions. Ebrahim Azizi, in a statement on his X account, declared that the ‘maximum pressure’ policy targeting Iran has proven unsuccessful, and its proponents will face more severe repercussions this time.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Azizi’s warning followed the UN Security Council’s decision on Friday to vote against a draft resolution that would have permanently lifted sanctions associated with Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has labeled the move as ‘an unlawful, unjustified and provocative act,’ arguing that it undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Azizi emphasized that the Islamic Republic remains committed to dialogue and constructive engagement, yet some global powers have opted for pressure and confrontation over negotiations. He asserted that this choice will not advance their objectives but will instead deepen their isolation and guarantee their failure.
He further noted that recent experiences have demonstrated the ineffectiveness of maximum pressure campaigns against the Iranian nation, which have only resulted in greater costs for its adversaries. Azizi highlighted the resilience of the Iranian people, who have consistently stood firm against threats and pressures, attributing the failure of hostile policies to this steadfastness.
Finally, Azizi reiterated that while Iran regards negotiation as a demonstration of strength, it will not permit its goodwill to be exploited for excessive demands or noncommitment.
