Islamabad: The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has announced that Islamabad welcomes Iran’s offer of mediation to resolve disputes between Islamabad and Kabul.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, quoted by the daily Dawn, expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for Iran’s willingness to act as a mediator. Andrabi emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving issues, stating that Iran is a “brotherly, friendly country” and that Pakistan values peaceful resolutions. He further mentioned that Pakistan has a “very strong case” and is open to any mediatory role Iran might play.
The context of this statement follows a recent offer from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who expressed Iran’s readiness to assist in resolving the remaining differences and deescalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government. This development coincides with the arrival of Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, in Islamabad. Takht-Ravanchi is leading a delegation to participate in the 13th round of bilateral political consultations between Iran and Pakistan. He is also scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, will represent Pakistan in the discussions with Takht-Ravanchi and his delegation.
