Qalibaf Highlights Security Pact with Iraq as Crucial for Regional Stability

Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized the importance of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq in fostering sustainable, long-term stability for both countries and the broader region. Speaking at a meeting in Tehran with Iraq’s National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji, Qalibaf underscored that the bilateral security accord is a significant step toward achieving enduring security with a long-term perspective, and is expected to enhance the relationship between the two neighbors.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Qalibaf expressed hope that the security agreement would lead to greater stability across various dimensions and strengthen the bilateral ties between Iran and Iraq. He also highlighted regional threats, particularly those posed by the Israeli regime, which have escalated since a 12-day conflict involving Israel and Iran in June. Qalibaf noted that Israel’s attack on Qatar served as a wake-up call for many Islamic countries regarding the dangers facing the region.

Al-Araji, during the meeting, described the relations between Baghdad and Tehran as very friendly and reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to the security pact with Iran. He emphasized that the security of both nations is interconnected and stressed the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation. Al-Araji further remarked on the depth of the bilateral relations, asserting that no external force could restrict the ties between Iran and Iraq.
