Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei emphasized that the focus for Iran and the entire West Asia region is on the actions of the US government rather than its electoral process. During his weekly press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei criticized the continuation of Washington’s hostile policies towards Iran over the past four years, particularly the unfulfilled commitments related to Iran’s nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baghaei highlighted that the American voting patterns are primarily of concern to the US itself. However, the key issue for Iran and the region is Washington’s ongoing behavior and its broader implications. He accused the US of supporting Israeli activities in Gaza and Lebanon, noting that American backing has allowed Israel to continue its actions unchecked by international resolutions. Baghaei urged the international community to hold the US accountable for these policies.
Baghaei also discussed the Riyadh summit, organized by t
he Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was proposed by Iran. He expressed hope that the summit would help end Israel’s aggressive actions in the region. Baghaei stressed the OIC’s capability to inform the global community about the threats posed by the Zionist regime, while lamenting the UN Security Council’s inaction, which he attributed to US obstruction.
In addition, Baghaei condemned a recent terrorist attack in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, asserting that such incidents would not weaken the nation’s resolve. He also elaborated on Iran’s diplomatic efforts, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to Islamabad and discussions with Iraqi and Saudi officials aimed at regional security and cooperation.
Baghaei accused the US and Israel of misusing Iraqi airspace to target Iran, which he described as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. He stated that Iraq plans to lodge a complaint with the United Nations regarding these actions.
Reg
arding immigrants in Iran, Baghaei mentioned that the Interior Ministry is addressing the issue and that necessary measures are being implemented. He also addressed recent comments by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, denying allegations of Iran supplying missiles to Russia and criticizing European sanctions based on these claims.
Baghaei criticized the US judicial system for its repetitive and unfounded accusations against Iran, including an alleged assassination plot against President-elect Donald Trump. He described these accusations as attempts to sow discord and emphasized Iran’s commitment to peaceful international relations.
Lastly, Baghaei discussed the upcoming visit of IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi to Iran in the context of ongoing cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the JCPOA, emphasizing the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
