Beirut: Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to take 'ownership' of the Gaza Strip and forcibly displace its Palestinian population, labeling it as 'American madness' that Palestine will not accept.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hezbollah condemned the proposal as a reflection of a 'racist, eliminationist, and fascist ideology' that poses a threat to humanity and violates the fundamental rights of people to their homeland. The group emphasized that the inherent right to one's homeland, recognized by international treaties and customs, cannot be stripped away by force or coercion.
Last week, President Trump suggested that the U.S. take 'ownership' of the Gaza Strip and transform it into a tourism hub, which would result in the permanent displacement of its Palestinian residents. In a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump stated, 'The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,' proposing to rebuild it into 'the Riviera of the Middle East.' He further insisted that Palestinians in Gaza 'have no alternative' but to flee the area.
The proposal has ignited global outrage, even from some of Washington's allies in West Asia. In response, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the White House, asserting that the Palestinian territory is 'not for sale.'
Hezbollah expressed confidence that those who resisted Israel's previous military actions would also oppose this proposed displacement scheme. The movement declared that 'Trump and his allies will come to realize that this sacred land will not submit to American madness,' urging people across the Arab and Islamic world, as well as globally, to unite against what they described as a vile conspiracy.
The statement concluded by asserting that the fate of the Palestinian people should not be dictated by what Hezbollah termed as the Zionist-American obsession with land seizure and control over peoples' destinies.
