Tehran: The strategic deputy to the Iranian president has declared that the recent anti-Iran resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors is without legal foundation, asserting that Europe and the United States lack the authority to make claims against the Islamic Republic.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in an exclusive interview, highlighted that European countries failed to uphold their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) following the United States' exit from the agreement. Despite making commitments twice after the US withdrawal, Europe did not fulfill any of the 11 commitments promised, thus undermining their position to make claims against Iran. Consequently, the resolution passed by the IAEA Board of Governors is deemed legally baseless.Zarif criticized the European approach to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, noting that while Europe verbally opposed the US stance, it did not take any substantial acti ons. He pointed out that Europe's commitments to Iran were independent of US actions and depended solely on Iran's implementation of its obligations.Discussing upcoming negotiations between Iran's deputy foreign ministers and European nations, set to begin on Friday, Zarif emphasized the potential of dialogue as a solution. He urged the European Union to abandon its superior stance and reconsider its self-assigned role as a global norm-setter, citing their handling of conflicts involving the Zionist regime in regions like Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon as evidence of their lack of commitment to global norms.Referencing comments from Ali Larijani, an advisor to the Supreme Leader, Zarif reiterated that Iran remains committed to the JCPOA and has consistently expressed its willingness to adhere to the agreement, accusing the United States of violating commitments by withdrawing from the deal.Zarif emphasized that any new agreement would be based on the JCPOA, a diplomatic achievement developed over extensiv e discussions involving Iran, the US, Europe, Russia, and China. He argued that reversing the current detrimental process is in the best interest of all parties involved, as a zero-sum outcome is not a viable solution in international relations.
