Tehran:Iran welcomes all diplomatic efforts but remains fully prepared to defend itself, according to Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs. He emphasized that any negotiations must be based on realistic proposals.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi conveyed that Tehran is finalizing its response to the United States' comments and concerns regarding Iran's proposal submitted in New York. Iran plans to communicate its final position through mediators after completing consultations and remains ready for diplomacy if realistic proposals are put forward.
Gharibabadi noted that Iran consistently welcomes diplomatic initiatives and actively pursues dialogue with any party. However, he stressed that Iran's readiness to defend itself is as strong as its preparedness to negotiate. The deputy foreign minister highlighted Tehran's continued participation in talks as a demonstration of its political flexibility and commitment to the diplomatic process, urging Washington to fulfill its commitments as well.
He also pointed out that Iran has not violated any of its obligations, while the United States has failed to honor its commitments under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, and should therefore take remedial steps. Gharibabadi stated that Iran should not be expected to show further flexibility while the US continues to disregard its commitments.
