Tehran: Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has declared that the nation will not wait for any communication from the United States to mitigate the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic. This statement was made during an open session of Parliament, following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that he had sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, seeking the resumption of negotiations.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Trump made the announcement amid the reinstatement of a 'maximum pressure' campaign against Iran, aimed at halting the country's oil exports. This campaign was initially launched during Trump's first term as president. Qalibaf emphasized that the Iranian nation has already demonstrated that sanctions can only be countered by bolstering the country's strength. He further asserted that negotiations would not result in the lifting of sanctions if they are accompanied by threats and demands for new concessions.
Qalibaf stated, "We do not wait for any letter from the U.S., and we believe that, by using internal capacities and opportunities for developing foreign relations, we can achieve a position that the enemy has no choice but to lift the sanctions within the framework of negotiations with the remaining parties to the JCPOA." He referenced the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018 under the Trump administration.
The Parliament Speaker also criticized President Trump's approach to other countries, describing his demand for reopening negotiations as a deceptive strategy intended to weaken Iran. On the previous day, Ayatollah Khamenei addressed Iranian government officials, indicating that calls for negotiations by powerful nations are not genuine attempts to resolve issues but rather efforts to impose demands on Iran.
Additionally, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that the country had not received any letter from the United States, reinforcing Iran's stance on the matter.
