Baghdad: Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, announced that the core objective of the security agreement between Tehran and Baghdad is to ensure stability in bilateral relations and prevent any individual or country from undermining security in either nation.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Larijani, speaking at a press conference in Baghdad, emphasized that the agreement represents a model of security cooperation that could potentially be extended to other countries in the region. Larijani stressed the importance of mutual security through closer coordination between Iran and Iraq, asserting, “Our view is that all regional states should be secure and strong.”
During his visit to Baghdad as part of a regional tour that will also include Lebanon, Larijani participated in the signing of a security agreement aimed at enhancing coordination along the shared border between Iraq and Iran. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to fortify their security ties amidst regional tensions.
Larijani also addressed the broader regional political dynamics, highlighting that Hezbollah and other resistance movements possess significant political maturity and autonomy. He remarked, “They know well what is in the best interest of their countries and do not need a custodian,” a statement made in the context of US-pushed calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah. Larijani further stated that Iran is resilient and not easily destabilized by external pressures.
